Since I can remember I have always wanted to be with horses, to ride them and make them part of my life. At the age of five I knew I wanted to do something that helped people get well. My dreams came true, as I was fortunate enough to study nursing, and education, and to enjoy owning wonderful horses.
Three decades have passed since I started working within my dream and passion. In choosing Equine Assisted Activities and Therapy as a profession, I have been able to help many challenged and disabled children and adults achieve a better quality of life. Working full time in the field has given me the opportunity to provide and facilitate many different learning programs and research that has both strengthened practice and supported other practitioners. It was always my mission to practice with expertise, which has required lots of research, study, reflection and creativity. After several years of study and research, in 2016 I received my doctorate from Derby College in England, having written my doctoral thesis on Equine Assisted Activities and/or Therapy: Towards a Future Curriculum.
This website is my legacy to the global community of practitioners. I hope that by passing on my knowledge and experience I will contribute to future generations of practitioners.
The website will be replete with my experience, research, resources and stories to help practitioners become the best version of themselves. The website will support best practice, and optimal results, as it will propose a unique insight about EAA/T that is easily understood. For many, this will provide knowledge that is transformative, especially as it will look at practice from a unique angle.
This website is the culmination of my working life’s journey. I hope it will help others who have embarked, or wish to embark, on a similar journey to partner with the horse to offer healing to people.
Best Wishes,
Anita.
